Reflecting on progress: Lesson observations and Action plans in the NELCA project

As part of the ongoing activities aimed at enhancing the teacher monitoring process, lesson observations were conducted in April 2025 within the framework of the “Creating the Network of Excellent ULCA Schools” project. This activity was designed to support the professional development of teachers who had previously participated in the Erasmus+ training sessions, “Learner Centered Approach” and “Learn&Lead – Self Management”, under the “Upgrade with Learner Centered Approach – ULCA” project.

The observations were led by Maja Videnovik, a certified trainer within the project, alongside Mirjana Jankulovska from Dig-Ed. Together, they observed lessons delivered by teachers who had attended the previously mentioned training programs. The observed teachers included Silvana Binova from OOU “Strašo Pindžur”, Karbinci, Jovanka Paunkova and Angelčo Kjosev from OOU “Strašo Pindžur”, Negotino.

During the lesson observations, Maja Videnovik focused on analyzing the pedagogy and classroom dynamics, looking at how the lessons were delivered and the atmosphere in the classroom. Meanwhile, Mirjana Jankulovska carried out a detailed observation and evaluation process using a Teacher Development Framework checklist that was specifically designed during the ULCA project to assess teacher competencies.

Following the observations, a collaborative analysis was conducted with the teachers to assess the extent to which the Learner-Centered Approach (LCA) competencies had been achieved in their teaching. Constructive feedback was provided by Maja Videnovik and Mirjana Jankulovska, and a joint action plan was developed to guide the improvement of the teachers’ LCA teaching methods and practices going forward.

Additionally, two teachers who had previously participated in the observation process last year had their action plans reviewed and updated. This allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the goals they had set during the previous cycle. The progress made in achieving these goals was carefully evaluated, and adjustments were made to ensure continuous improvement. By revisiting their action plans, the teachers had the opportunity to reflect on their development, celebrate successes, and identify areas for further growth. This process is integral to fostering a culture of ongoing professional development and ensuring that the teachers remain aligned with the Learner-Centered Approach (LCA) and other key educational strategies promoted through the NELCA project.
