EU Code Week will take place from October 5-20, 2019 and is based on the idea for young councilors, an advisory group by former Digital Agenda Commissioner Nelly Cross and is supported by the European Commission. The initiative of Meet and Code is to organize events related to science and technology during the EU Programming Week with 300 € starting funds for the event.
Behind Meet and Code stand SAP, Haus des Stiftens gGmbH and the respective partners from the member countries of the TechSoup Europe network. SAP enables the Meet and Code initiative through financial support and other resources for nonprofits. Haus des Stiftens gGmbH is responsible for the initiative, for the selection of projects in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as for the overall project management and coordination of funding by the responsible managing partners of the country from the TechSoup Europe network. TechSoup Europe partners are responsible for coordinating the initiative and selecting events to be supported in their countries. Meet and Code was developed jointly by Haus des Stiftens and SAP.
Haus des Stiftens, a German social enterprise, operates on the IT portal Stifter-helfen in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The IT portal Stifter-helfen provides donations and special conditions for non-profit organizations in these countries from well-known companies in the IT industry as well as knowledge of modern technologies. In Germany, the IT portal was launched in 2008, in Austria in 2012 and in Switzerland in 2013.
TechSoup Europe is part of the TechSoup Global Network. Together with 24 partner organizations representing different areas: capacity building, civic participation, social innovation or digital inclusion, it helps more than 400,000 non-profit organizations in 48 European countries build their capacity. The network equips change makers with products from the IT industry, knowledge and services so they can take advantage of technology and focus on their mission to make social change.
