Center for innovation and digital education Dig-Ed organized an event during the CodeWeek – Promotion of our city using QR codes. Its organization was supported by Meet and code initiative. This event was part of the action: Community. Meet and code is organized and supported by SAP, Haus des Stiftens gGmbH, TechSoup Europe and Metamorphosis in Macedonia.
The event took place in two primary schools in North Macedonia, “Krste Misirkov” in Skopje and “Strasho Pindzur” in Negotino. Around 40 students from 11 to 14 years participated in it. The event itself consists of two workshops, taking place on 08.10.2019 and 15.10.2019.
The idea of the event was to empower students with a skills to create and manage a web site, and create and use QR codes.
On the first workshop students learnt how to create a web site on wordpress, how to add, design and manage posts, how to adapt the look of the site and a lot of interesting things concerning creation and management of web sites. Students enjoyed the activities and they were very happy that they gather skills that can be used in everyday life. Divided in groups students found information about some popular spots in their town and started writing posts.
Second workshop started with the writing the final version of the posts (in Macedonian and English) and publishing them on the web site. After that students learnt how to create QR codes which will lead to a specific part of the web site. They created QR codes, printed them and put them on previously mentioned spots in town. Students were excited that the QR codes worked out and that they lead to the web site that they actually created. Every visitor that will come to see the specific place in town will have the opportunity to scan the QR code and to read more about that place.
At the end of the event students mentioned that they would like this activity to continue as part of the extra-curriculum activities in the school and to put information about more places in town on the web site.
