Call for good STEM teaching practices concerning formative assessment in online environment

Online teaching has led to bigger flexibility in teaching and learning, but also to the necessity of more complex preparation by the teachers. Namely, all teaching strategies, methods and techniques should be planned in details, appropriate digital tools should be carefully chosen, digital resources should be created, different activities should be planned.  It is very important to pan and continuously follow students’ work, giving them a constructive feedback with the direction for further learning.

Formative assessment in online environment is really a challenge taking into account choosing a method, online tool, creating digital resource and fiving a feedback, during synchronous or asynchronous communication. Created digital resources should be interactive, increasing students’ interest and motivation, taking into account students’ age, previous knowledge, digital competences as well as available time for doing the assignments.

The cooperation among teachers and the exchange of experiences and ideas, learning from each other how to implement good formative assessment, is essential for implementation of quality online teaching. Establishing communities of teachers who learn from each other and share good practices is the base of professional development of teachers and providing quality teaching. In order to create a database of good online teaching practices, where teachers would share their experiences and help other teachers, we announce this call for sharing good online practices from STEM teaching concerning formative assessment. The call is announced in cooperation with Scientix and offers an opportunity to strengthen STEM community on national level, by sharing experiences and ideas, and improving teh quality of online STEM teaching.

Each of you has an opportunity to show an approach about using online tools and resources for formative assessment. In this way we will enrich the repository of online educational resources that can then be used in other teachers’ classes. We believe that each of you over the past year has different examples about formative assessment, but to enable the sharing of experiences by a larger number of colleagues, one teacher can send up to three examples of good online practices.

The focus in describing online teaching practice should be put on digital tools used for formative assessment, created resource (link and guideline for using), as well as description about formative assessment during the activities. Attention should be paid to the copyright issue of resources and sharing rights, as well as appropriate reflection of teaching practice. The idea is your example to be accessed by other teachers and re-used. More about copyright issues can be found on the following link: https://creativecommons.org/about/cclicenses/

The description of the teaching practices should be done on the basis of the following form, taking care of the formatting (according to the form) and it should be no longer than 2 pages. Submit your activity descriptions no later than 23rd of May to the following email address:  contact@dig-ed.org. By submitting your descriptions of teaching practices, you agree to be posted on the Dig-Ed website, and that it can be used and/ or modified by other teachers.
